The Road Goes Ever On and On

Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.

Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known

The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say

The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with weary feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say

The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
Let others follow it who can!
Let them a journey new begin,
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.

Cesta sa vinie ďalej a ďalej

Cesty sa vinú ďalej a ďalej, v diaľave
Ponad kameň i popod chládok stromu
Popri jaskyniach, kam nesvietia slnka lúče
I pri potokoch, čo netrafia nikdy k moru
Ponad zimou rozsiaty sneh
A pomedzi veselé kvety júnové
Ponad trávu i ponad kameň
A ponad hory v mesačnom svite

Cesty sa vinú ďalej a ďalej, v diaľave
Pod oblakom i pod hviezdou
No nohy, ktoré boli na vandrovke
Konečne sa zďaleka otáčajú domov
Oči čo videli oheň i meče
A tie hrôzy v sieňach kamenných
Dívajú sa na lúky zelené, konečne
A stromy a hory, ktoré dlho poznali

Cesta sa vinie ďalej a ďalej, v diaľave
Až od dverí, kde výprava moja začala
Teraz už doďaleka Cesta sa tiahne
A nasledovať ju musím, ak to zvládam
Držte sa jej nohy moje nedočkavé
Kým sa k väčšej trase zas pripojí
Kde stretajú sa chodníčky mnohé
A kamže potom ? To sa uvidí

Cesta sa vinie ďalej a ďalej, v diaľave
Až od dverí, kde výprava moja začala
Teraz už doďaleka Cesta sa tiahne
A nasledovať ju musím, ak to zvládam
Držte sa jej nohy moje unavené
Kým sa k väčšej trase zas pripojí
Kde stretajú sa chodníčky mnohé
A kamže potom ? To sa uvidí

Cesta sa vinie ďalej a ďalej, v diaľave
Od tých dverí, kde výprava moja začala
Teraz už doďaleka Cesta sa tiahne
Nech ju nasleduje ten, kto to zvláda !
Nech si už iní načnú púť novú
A ja konečne s unavenými nohami
Obrátim sa k hostincu osvetlenému
Za oddychom večerným a driemotami

Will turn towards the kalin himazadanda,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.
